It could be quite beneficial to upgrade KF players' equipment a bit, for example, by introducing a new item in the equipment category: a helmet! This could reduce the gap between 2-handed and 1-handed armor, and even between 2-handed and 2-handed armor (and helmets). I'm just throwing this out there, but it would potentially appeal to quite a few players to be able to reduce the imbalance between 1-handed, 2-handed, and 2-handed armor... What do you think, dear admins and fellow gamers?

A suggestion like that has already been made on the German forum;

a helmet could, for example, provide additional skill points for abilities—just like amulets and rings currently do—which might also be quite nice for two-handed builds.

Regarding the 2H/1H balance?

That balance only exists on Int 7 and wasn't Cratr's best idea (sorry, but it's true ^^).

Just because I'm that geeky, I've once again looked at the equipment available and gold spent across stats (and even worked out the "optimum" stat distrubution for that gold based on the formulas for each build).
I've totally ignored the parry bonus on shields and also any penalties - because I'm just trying to look at the simple numbers.

Zerker max equipment = 601 lvl 201
Max armoured 2H = 1002 lvl 334
Max 1H + armour = 750 lvl 250.

The armoured 2H build is "the best" build in raw numbers by a country-mile. however it takes 130+ levels of a zerker & 80+ of a 1H to get there.

Zerker and 1H are actually balanced at max equipment - again 1H takes another 50 levels more than the zerker to get there.

I ran the numbers for 600 primary stats, 500 & 400.
At 400 the 1H is actually 0.42 average dam/def better than the zerker; at 600 there was only 22 points in favour of the zerk.

Which has conffirmed again what I knew to be true:

  • The Zerker is not the "best" build it's just the progress is fastest.
  • Spending gold on stats correctly is important - very easy to go down the wrong road there!
  • some minor tweaks to armour or 1H items in the lower levels would bring some balance in early game.
  • align max 2H closer to max 1H+Armour in terms of level obtained

Not saying that a new item wouldn't be good overal (unlikely to happen) but that the disadvantage is only intially so I'm not sure how one add it withouth throwing things out at the end-game...
